Yoga Hips & Shoulders is a 90 minute DVD with Yoga teacher Ashley Gregory.

Ashley has been involved in Yoga since 1985 and started teaching in 1994. Ashley has studied within the Iyengar and Sivananda Yoga systems as well as Astanga and other Hatha Yoga systems. All of these influences are expressed on this DVD.

The postures are clearly demonstrated and are mirror image so that when you are following along it appears that we are both practicing the asana on the same side. This avoids confusion when you are looking at the screen and following along to the audio. The DVD has been filmed with a neutral background to avoid distractions. Audio is voice over giving clear verbal instruction.

Ashley Gregory

Background and training

Ashley brings a wide range of skills and interests to his teaching one to one (private) or open classes. He has been a student of Hatha Yoga since 1985, and has been teaching Hatha Yoga since 1994. Ashley has studied within both the Iyengar and Sivananda yoga systems.

Ashley’s interest in the mechanics of the human body led him to undertake studies in Osteopathy. He was awarded a BSc Osteopathy from the British School of Osteopathy in 1999. He has undertaken post graduate courses at the Institute of Classical Osteopathy, Maidstone.

Ashley has also undertaken courses in Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation at Charles University, Czech Republic.

This 3.5 hour Thai massage video (on 2 DVDs) presents the complete sequence of Northern Style Thai Massage as taught in the 70-hour Level 3 course. Chuck Duff performs a full Thai massage on a model while providing instructional commentary on body mechanics and technique for each pose.

The Northern (Chiang Mai) style is by far the most popular form of Thai massage practiced today. There is a strong emphasis on movement and stretching, making it both enjoyable and therapeutic. In this DVD Chuck Duff provides in-depth instruction of the techniques of HandsFree ThaiTM, which allows the practitioner to work on large or heavily muscled clients in a way that is highly beneficial for the client and the practitioner. Commoner or rural style (Nuad Chaleisak) techniques allow the therapist to provide broad, deep pressure using feet, knees, shins and highly efficient body mechanics, avoiding stress on the hands or shoulders. Over 100 asana variations are taught as a 2 hour treatment sequence employing all treatment attitudes.

Thai massage has a long tradition of walking techniques, as do many other cultures. These techniques can be practiced without elaborate equipment such as ropes, bars or specially made treatment rooms. If the practitioner is developing balance, a simple object like a chair is sufficient to help maintain safe balance while on the client. We teach the student to be able to do this work with as little mechanical assistance as possible.

HandsFree ThaiTM is an excellent way for the practitioner to safely work with athletes and other clients who require deeper pressure without endangering the hands, wrists and shoulders. As in all of our courses, we maintain a strong therapeutic focus in our teaching, guiding the student in how to work with specific issues of pain or dysfunction. We employ the principles of Clinical Thai Bodywork to teach the student patterns of pain and its origins while using HandsFree techniques.
